Someone mentioned to Barbara back in 1987 that she should take a chance in advancing her talents and career. Thus, opening Barbara Ondo Designs over thirty years ago sent her on an incredible journey. Her combined background of business and marketing blended with natural design skills made her a leader in her field. Family, friends, co-workers, business associates and new acquaintances would describe Barbara as happy, positive and patient.
Her passion for design is evident every day, as she lives by the three E’s…..Energy, Enthusiasm… and Empathy! Whether working with the young, the old, and everyone in between, marketing and design is a recipe that comes naturally to her.

Jalen Atkinson
DESIGNER
As a B.F.A. recipient from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2013, Jalen was equipped with the necessary skills and tools to be a successful designer. Studying and living abroad in Lacoste, France, Jalen became inspired by the Provencal French culture, through which the idea that concepts are rich in history and tradition was revealed.
Passion in design is to tell a story
While many schools have science fairs, the middle school Jalen attended had an academic fair. The topic, How the Color of a Room Affects a Person’s Personality opened her eyes to the world of Interior Design. When the blue ribbon was placed on the presentation board, she knew Interior Design was her desired career even at an early age.
As a B.F.A. recipient from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2013, Jalen was equipped with the necessary skills and tools to be a successful designer and received many hands-on opportunities and experiences. Studying and living abroad in Lacoste, France, Jalen became inspired by the Provencal French culture, through which the idea that concepts are rich in history and tradition was revealed.
As a selected participant in an off-campus comprehensive program with Disney Imagineers, Jalen explored Disney’s design process through backstage tours and engaging presentations with lead Imagineers. These two pivotal experiences along with studying architectural history and art history at SCAD enabled Jalen to grasp the complexity of expressing a concept. As an evolving Interior Designer, her passion is to design spaces that are not only universal but tell a story and create an experience.
Jalen resides in St. Augustine with her husband where she is active in volunteering with the youth program and young adult group at her church. She has been an associate designer with Barbara Ondo Designs since 2014 relishing the collaboration of award winning designs.
